Without further hesitation, turn on your Xbox, PC, or Nintendo Switch, and let’s craft a Redstone Repeater in Minecraft!

What Are Redstone Repeaters Exactly?

A Redstone Repeater is a block that allows you to repeat Redstone signals at your will.

Redstone Repeater can delay, transmit in a different direction or control the signal transmission emitted by a Redstone Circuit.

Redstone Repeaters will take the input signal behind them and copy it upfront, usually being the output signal stronger than it previously was.

A Redstone Repeater will only receive power from one side, allowing the powered signal to travel 15 blocks further.

Note that a Redstone Repeater can only be powered from behind. Redstone Repeaters have a maximum stack of 64.

Understanding Redstone Circuits

Minecraft is not only about creating fancy homes or looting chests, you can also create a Redstone circuit to control certain mechanisms that players or mobs will activate in the same way.

Redstone structures are activated either by a lever, a button or by pressure plates - it all depends on the way the circuit is designed.

Do not confuse Redstone Repeaters with Redstone Comparators! A Comparator is a block that will subtract or compare a signal instead of repeating it. Therefore, you should note that Comparators and Redstone Repeaters are two different devices.

Redstone Dust

Redstone Dust is the mineral used to transmit Redstone Power. It works as a power source to emit a Redstone Signal directly to a circuit.

You can find Redstone Dust naturally generated in a jungle pyramid, but there’s also the possibility to craft it.

Crafting recipe for Redstone Dust

You can go to the crafting table and simply place a Redstone Block to generate it. You can also follow the smelting recipe, which demands Redstone Ore + Any fuel to create this dust.

Redstone Ore Smelting

Redstone Ore is the main block that creates the previously mentioned stone. Don’t forget to bring your iron pickaxe!

Redstone Torches

Redstone Torches are non-solid blocks that can be used either as a lamp or as a signal inverter. It basically lights a place up, but it also has other uses strongly related to a Redstone Repeater.

To create Redstone Torches, you must forget about coal! If you want to craft a Redstone Torch, just follow the following recipe.

Redstone Torch Crafting Recipe

Place one Redstone Dust (instead of coal) in the middle of the second row of the Crafting table. Just under the Redstone Dust, place an ordinary stick.

Your crafting area should look like the picture shown here. Right-clicking the table will give you a newly-crafted Redstone Torch!

How to Make a Redstone Repeater

There are two main ways to get a Redstone Repeater:

Obtain it (Natural Generation)

If you don’t want to lose your precious time finding the right items to create a Redstone Repeater, you could just go to a jungle temple and try to find one. This is valid in Xbox, PC, and all popular Minecraft versions.

Required Materials to Make a Redstone Repeater

In case you want to make a Redstone Repeater by yourself, you will need three main ingredients:

  • First, create two Redstone Torches. Just follow the recipe we just gave you.
  • Then, you will need some stones. You can create Smooth Stone just by smelting cobblestone in furnace or a Blast Furnace, so it shouldn’t be difficult for you. Cobblestone can be easily found all over the Minecraft world, so find the pieces you need, lead to the furnace, and the work should be done.
  • Finally, you will also need one Redstone Dust in your crafting grid.

Once you get these materials, just place them like this on your crafting table in Minecraft:

Place each torch, as shown above, one Redstone Dust in the middle and each Stone block below them.

There you go - a recently crafted Redstone Repeater ready to use!

What Can You Use Redstone Repeaters for in Minecraft?

The creativity behind Redstone Repeaters is simply astonishing. These repeaters are just another tool to exploit the Minecraft world at our will. There are four main uses to a Redstone Repeater, and we will mention each one of them.

Redstone Signal Delayer

Redstone Repeaters delay signals thanks to their capability to adjust the signal time by 4 speeds (1 to 4). As a consequence, the output signal will have a delay based on the player’s requirement.

There’s the possibility to stack this delay by using multiple Redstone Repeaters, so the options are limitless.

Redstone Signal Repeater

Redstone Dust has a limited reach of just 15 blocks. If you want to extend this signal in a particular direction, just place a Redstone Repeater and watch the magic happen.

A Redstone Torch could also have a repeater effect, but the signal will surely lose strength as it continues its path.

Redstone Signals Redirect

If you want multiple Redstone signals to change their direction, just place a Redstone Repeater that’s being powered from the back and change to the desired path.

If two repeaters are placed side by side, they won’t interfere with each other. On the other hand, if the repeaters are placed in a row, the signal will undoubtedly be modified.

Redstone Signal Locker

One Redstone Repeater can disable the signal emitted by another just by placing it in the following way:

Keep in mind that a locked Redstone Repeater cannot change its state, so it would need to be done manually.

That’s it for today! Redstone Repeaters can be used for hundreds of creations.

These are the basics of this essential block that you must get to know if you want to have a chance in the enormous world of Minecraft.
