Minecraft is full of enchantments, locations, weapons, and new things waiting to be discovered every time someone plays the game.

It doesn’t matter if you like Bedrock Edition, Java Edition, Pocket Edition and even Education Edition - you will never run out of things to do.

But this world is so vast and full of new things that it is impossible to get to know them all within just a couple of days (or even weeks!).

Hence, if you have found an enchant that you don’t know what it is, such as the Impaling Enchant, then worry not - this happens to other users as well.

In today’s article, we will be talking about the Impaling Enchantment in Minecraft.

What Is Impaling in Minecraft?

Impaling is a Minecraft Enchantment that deals extra damage against sea creatures and underwater enemies.

It is applied to a Trident, which means that the Trident’s damage increases in strength when using it for a melee attack.

Although the Impaling Enchantment increases the damage dealt against aquatic mobs, the truth is that it works differently on Bedrock Edition and Minecraft Java Edition.

Pocket Edition and Education Edition work similarly to Java Edition, though.

Pro Tip

Do you need to go and fight in the Nether? Beware! You will need good enchantments and weapons to fight the undead and other creatures.

What Does Impaling Do in Minecraft?

So, how does Impaling work between different versions? You already know what Impaling in Minecraft does: you deal additional damage to enemies with a Trident.

But there will be changes depending on the version you play:

  • If you use Minecraft Java Edition combat test, you will realize that the Impaling Enchant is limited to classic aquatic creatures, such as glow squids, dolphins, fishes, and more. Regular mobs remain unaffected to Impaling abilities;
  • On the other hand, in the Bedrock Edition you can use your Trident as a weapon against Elder Guardians, water guardians, and even mobs, and players will receive extra damage if they are underwater.

That being said, you can use Impaling functions in the following scenarios.

1. Fight Against Underwater Mobs

Are you about to engage into a fight against mobs that spawn in the sea? Use the Impaling Enchant! It is better to deal extra damage than to sit quietly while sea creatures destroy you.

2. Attack Aquatic Mobs and Players in the Rain

Une of the best things about the Impaling Enchantment in the Bedrock Edition is the fact that you can attract mobs and aquatic mobs whenever there’s flowing water.

So, if it’s raining, you can also use the Impaling Enchantment to do extra damage.

3. Explore the Sea with Your Trident

There are plenty of useful resources underwater. If you are about to explore a temple in the sea, you better bring your Trident with Impaling Enchantment with you.

Otherwise, be prepared to receive a lot of damage from drowned and other mobs.

Enchantments are made to be used during your journey, so don’t sleep on the Impaling Enchantment never!

How to Get the Impaling Enchantment in Minecraft

As it happens with other enchantments, your best show for finding the Impaling Enchant is by going to an Enchanting Table.

You can also find the Impaling Enchantment in the form of an Enchanted Book, but it is quite harder to do so.

Without further ado, let’s see how you can find this useful enchant!

Step 1: Get a Trident in Minecraft

Unfortunately, you cannot make a Trident on the Crafting Table. As a consequence, the only way to get a Trident is by finding it.

You can find Tridents by killing drowned undead mobs.

Drowned mobs are found all across the ocean, and they are not easy to kill, so beware!

Step 2: Go to the Enchantment Table

After you have your Trident, you need to go to an Enchantment Table.

Every enchantment needs Lapis Lazuli on the table so you can power it.

Find Lapis, and go to the Enchantment Table as you normally do.

Don’t forget to bring your Trident!

Step 3: Select Impaling Max Level Available

You cannot enchant a weapon with Impaling other than Tridents. Hence, you cannot use a sword nor have a helmet enchanted with Impaling.

Put the Trident on the table, and select the maximum level.

There are five levels for the Impaling Enchantment, and depending on the level you choose, you will do more damage against enemies.

Step 4: Get Your Trident Enchanted and Deal Extra Damage!

Once you have enchanted your Trident, you are ready to explore the ocean with your new weapon!

Just don’t forget to bring a water-breathing potion with you, so your adventure doesn’t end quickly.
