What’s a Grindstone in Minecraft?
Sometimes, a player has a sweet item in their inventory menu that happens to have its durability affected over time.
This is perfectly normal with armor, weapons, and a number of other tools - nothing lasts forever.
Luckily, the process to repair these tools is very straightforward: just find or craft a Grindstone and your problems will be gone.
This is a handy block that will help you make the best out of your Minecraft’s adventure.
What Can You Use a Minecraft Grindstone For?
Before you get to know how to make a Grindstone in Minecraft, you first must understand what you can use this item for.
At this point, it’s pretty clear that this is a magnificent tool if you want to repair, for example, a sword - but that’s not the only use you can give to Grindstones.
Repair Items and Improve Their Durability
In order to repair an object in Minecraft by using a Grindstone, you must find the same item type and place them both in the Grindstone’s input slot.
These items must be of the same category.
Once you have them in the crafting menu, just repair them, and the resulting item’s durability will be 5% more than the simple sum of both tools.

Remove Enchantments and Earn Experience Points
You can remove enchantments on an item with a Minecraft Grindstone.
What’s more, once you get the Enchantment Cost back, you’ll also gain Experience Points that can later be used in your journey.
Keep in mind that if you only want to remove or add enchantments instead of also repairing them, then an Enchantment Table might be the best tool in your case.
Pro tip
A Minecraft Grindstone can also remove any work penalty an item has accrued. Nevertheless, you won’t be able to remove any type of curse present in the items.
Grindstone vs. Anvil
The Minecraft Grindstone is not the only way to repair items such as crossbows in this game.
You might have heard about anvils before, and, in case you haven’t, check out our Anvil in Minecraft guide to learn all you need to know about this tool.
In addition to this, we’ll show you the differences between these two blocks.

Natural Generation
Before you go directly to a crafting area, you might want to look for a naturally generated Grindstone.
You may find them in village Blacksmiths. Once you find a Grindstone, you can turn unemployed villagers into weaponsmiths easily!
Grindstone Recipe to Craft This Item
Now, if you want to make a Grindstone, then it’s time to follow the Minecraft Grindstone recipe. This recipe will require the following items:

2 Stone Slab: In order to create stone slabs, put some Cobblestone in a Furnace or a Blast Furnace - that should do the trick. |

Once you are in the Crafting Table, just place the Stone Slab in the middle top row, the Sticks in the corners of the top row, and the Wood Planks just under the Sticks.
