There are so many blocks in Minecraft that it is normal to get lost around the game’s variety.

What’s more, new blocks are being added all the time on each different Minecraft version.

One of the best things that the Nether Update had for us was chains! Although chains are fairly simple, they also have great uses.

Consequently, it is important for all Minecrafters to learn more about this block and what they can do with it.

Continue reading this article on our site to get precise information about:

  • Understanding Minecraft Chain;
  • Step-by-step instructions to make a Minecraft Chain;
  • Everything you must know about the chain block in this game.

What Are Minecraft Chains?

Minecraft Chains are simple decorative blocks that can be found in each Minecraft Version.

Whether you use Java Edition, Pocket Edition, Bedrock Edition (Windows, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation), and even Education Minecraft Version, the block will work similarly across them all.

There aren’t major surprises around chains - they look cool enough, are easy to make, and you can use them for hanging things around and getting structures connected.

Pro Tip

Minecraft is not only about crafting - it’s about fighting too! Are you about to fight against sea creatures? Use Impaling in Minecraft!

Do you need to take down the fierce Ender Dragon from the skies? Use Minecraft Quick Charge! It all depends on the battle you are facing.

What Can You Use a Minecraft Chain For?

As we mentioned before, chains are fairly simple and unsurprising for most players.

However, you can indeed use them in different scenarios, which are the following.

1. Hang Bells and Soul Lanterns

Do you need to hang lanterns on the ceiling? Use chains! You don’t need a box on top of it - just add items, put the chain, and they will hang magnificently.

It is also possible to hang bells and get bridges connected with each other.

Some players use chains as a bridge in this game.

However, using a chain as a bridge is not recommended since you will need lots of precision. Stick with hanging lanterns instead!

2. Push Pistons Without Breaking Them

One of the best things about a Minecraft Chain is the fact that you can push a chain with a piston and it won’t be broken.

Hence, imagine that you want to trigger a piston mechanism, but the materials you use always get broken.

Use a chain instead and other items and forget about headaches!

3. Suspend Things without Using a Solid Block

People often believe that they need a solid block in order to hang things from a chain. That’s not how it works!

Chains can simply suspend in the air without having solid blocks around.

This works in Minecraft Java Edition, Pocket Edition, and Bedrock Edition (Windows, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, etc.) as well.

How to Make Chains in Minecraft

Now that you know what chains in Minecraft are and how to use them, it’s time to get some sweet chains crafted!

In order to do so, you just need to go to a Crafting Table in Minecraft, and follow a couple of easy steps.

Step 1: Go to the Crafting Table

Firstly, go to a Crafting Table. If you don’t know how to make a Crafting Table, read the previously mentioned blog post on our page so you can get more info about this matter.

Step 2: Use Iron Nugget and Iron Ingot

The materials required to craft a chain are simple to get:

  • 1 Iron Ingot: You can get an Iron Ingot by finding Iron Blocks or by looking for chest loot;
  • 2 Iron Nugget: Iron Nuggets are crafted using Iron Ingots on the crafting menu - just put the ingot there, and nuggets will appear.

Step 3: Complete the Minecraft Chain Recipe

Continue with the recipe as stated here:

  • Put one Iron Ingot on the middle box of the crafting grid;
  • Then, put one Iron Nugget above the middle box, and the other one below it;
  • The chain will be crafted - pick it up, and move it to your inventory.
