What is a Sea Pickle in Minecraft?

A Minecraft Sea Pickle is a simple block that acts as an underwater source of light across all of the Overworld.

Sea Pickles produce light, but they can be used for other purposes as well.

You can normally find four Sea Pickles together, and they will all have the same light level.

Although a single pickle has a light level of 6, four Sea Pickles together create a light source of up to 15, which is the greatest one in the game.

Many use sea pickles as decorative blocks that resemble pottery in their houses, but it depends on the player.

They are broken instantly with any tool, whether you play on the Education Edition, Pocket Edition, Java Edition, and Bedrock Edition (Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation).

1. Minecraft Sea Pickles Natural Generation

There are two main places where you can find a Sea Pickle:

  • Sea Pickle colonies generate on the bottom of warm oceans, where a colony produces between 1 and 4 Sea Pickles;
  • At the top of Coral Reefs. Finding a Coral Reef is quite easy as well - they are present in most oceans.

Sometimes, desert village houses have Sea Pickles in the form of pottery, but this is not that common. Once you find a Sea Pickle, break it and pick it from the ground.

2. Post Generation of Sea Pickles

Sea Pickles do not spread naturally, meaning that you can only make more by using Bone Meal.

The Bone Meal will act as a fertilizer that will reproduce Sea Pickles around.

Remember that they will grow only if placed on Coral.

Break them, and you will see a smaller Sea Pickle that you need to pick up.

3. Trading with Villagers

Although the previously mentioned methods should be more than enough for you, you can also find Sea Pickles by trading.

It is quite known that Wandering Traders and some villagers sell Sea Pickles for 2 emeralds, so have the emeralds ready before going to trade.
