What is a Conduit In Minecraft?

If you are thinking about building a city underwater, then you will need a Conduit.

Conduits are blocks that provide “Conduit Power,” a very useful ability that you will need to explore underwater ruins at your will.

The Conduit block is one of the most powerful ones in Minecraft since they allow you to experience new parts of the map that already exist but can’t be accessed without the risk of being drowned.

Understanding Conduit Power Status Effect

Conduit Power is a powerful area status effect that combines three main abilities that we’ll mention further in this blog post.

The sea is an immense location with lots of new underwater places to explore, but since players can’t stay under the sea without breathing, exploration gets difficult.

Conduit Power is just the perfect way to make the best out of survival mode.

How to Use a Conduit in Minecraft

As we mentioned before, there are three main uses that you can give to conduits.

Keep in mind that other effects can also be combined with the Conduit, but these are the main uses that Conduit Power Effect provides.

Water Breathing

First, for the Conduit Power Status effect to work, the block must be surrounded by water.

Once you activate the Conduit, it will provide Water Breathing effect within 32 blocks.

This range increases to 96 blocks depending on the structure used to activate Conduits.

Therefore, players won’t drown while they are within the range mentioned above.

Improved Underwater Mining

As you know, mining blocks underwater creates mining fatigue that can get really annoying if you want to complete a task in a short time frame.

One of the Conduit status effects will eliminate this fatigue, allowing you to spend more time mining the blocks that spawn around the oceans.

Combine it with aqua affinity enchantment and you are unstoppable!

Underwater Night Vision

The Conduit block will grant the player Night Vision in the aforementioned range on the map.

So, if some ocean ruins are too dark and you want to explore them, just place a Conduit close to it and let it work as if it were sea lanterns.

How to Craft a Conduit

Creating a Conduit requires some materials that are not so easy to find.

Fear not - we will show you every single step to find these items so you can build your Conduit structure!

Nautilus Shell

The Nautilus shells are one of the main ingredients to create this block.

For crafting purposes, you will need to find 8 Nautilus shells.

So, how do you find Nautilus shells?

• Spend some time fishing: there’s the possibility to find Nautilus shells by fishing, but it might take a while. Take out your fishing rod and wait for the best!

  

• Kill a Drowned: Drowned are hostile ocean mobs that have a chance of spawn holding Nautilus shells - look for the sign, kill them and get the reward!

  

• Wandering traders: a Wandering trader also might have the shells you are looking for. Be sure to take 5 emeralds with you!

  

Heart of the Sea

The Heart of the Sea is the central piece of this puzzle.

It is safe to mention that finding a Heart of the Sea is rather difficult: you can only find them in buried treasure chests.

Hence, you will need a treasure map and follow the X! Prepare yourself to mine a lot of blocks before finding one, though.

Don’t worry - you will find the right buried treasure eventually.

How to Activate a Conduit

Now, to activate a Conduit, you must create a structure that looks like this:

First, place a temporary block under the Conduit and then remove it. The Conduit must be floating in the middle of the structure. You can make more complex structures to increase Conduit’s range.

The blocks must create a frame around the conduit, which can be placed in different ways, always with the same result.

This frame can adopt different positions, depending on how you decide to create it.

There’s a minimum of 16 blocks required to activate it.

Remember that once the conduit is activated, its range might highly depend on the number of blocks used in the structure.

But can you use every block to activate it? The answer is no.

Prismarine Blocks

Prismarine blocks are blocks made from a specific material.

Conduit Power can only be activated with Prismarine blocks, specifically, the following ones:

• Prismarine bricks;
• Dark prismarine block;
• Sea lanterns;

A Prismarine block can be easily mined from ocean monuments, so it shouldn’t be hard to get one.

Nonetheless, consider that they will be killed only if they are within a radius of 8 blocks.
