What is a Campfire in Minecraft?
Basically, Campfires are blocks that can be used for several purposes. They can be a great addition to make your place look more beautiful, but they also offer benefits beyond just aesthetics.
Campfires look like this:

The one on the left is a normal Campfire, while the one on the right is a soul Campfire, a variant of the original Campfire that has a bright blue light.
How to Make a Campfire in Minecraft (The Recipe)
Campfires appear naturally in taiga or snowy taiga villages. So, you can just go right to one of these places and use a silk touch tool to break it.
If you wish to make a Campfire in Minecraft by yourself, these are the required materials:
| Campfire recipe | ||
|---|---|---|
| Image | Item | Where to get it from? |
|
|
Three sticks (wood) | You can craft it from planks, fish it out of the water, loot from Witches and Dead bushes |
|
|
One coal or charcoal | You can get Coal by mining coal ore with a pickaxe. As for charcoal, it can be smelted from Wood (use Furnace, not Blast Furnace) or obtained from breaking a Campfire. |
|
|
3 wooden blocks or three logs of any available wood | Break trees or match a Log with a Stem. |
1. Get the Crafting Table
Find a crafting table, as you will need the 3 x 3 crafting area.

2. Place All The Materials
The right order is the following:
- Sticks: the first stick goes in the second cell of the first row; at the same time the second stick must be placed on the first cell of the second row and the third stick on the third cell of the second row.
- Coal or charcoal: the coal goes into the center box.
- Wood logs: the logs go on the bottom of the crafting menu. Hence, just complete the last three rows in their entirety with this item.
Follow these instructions, and the game crafting menu should show you something like this:

3. It’s Time to Light The Fire!
Now that every single block, coal, and the three sticks are in its place, the Minecraft Campfire is ready to be lit! Once the player places the Campfire, the light will start to shine.
What is Minecraft Soul Campfire?
If you replace the charcoal with a Soul Soil in the center, you will receive a Soul Campfire instead of a regular Campfire. The crafting grid should look like this:

The only difference is the soul sand/soul soil in the center box. There are three wooden sticks in the same places as with the regular campfire with wooden blocks in the bottom row.
How are Soul Campfires different from regular Campfires? First of all, it looks different. It has a blue light instead of a usual yellow-orange-red.
The light level is lower. However, the biggest difference is that the Soul Campfire doesn’t melt ice or melt snow.
What are the functions of Campfire Minecraft players can utilize?
Campfire in Minecraft has many uses - from really practical ones to some purely aesthetic.

The smoke particles emitted by the fire float up to 10 or 24 blocks if a hay bale is placed below, becoming a signal fire. A smoke signal can help you find your way back home.
Obtaining Sweet Honey
If you place a Campfire under a bee nest, prepare yourself to harvest honey bottles or honeycomb without getting into trouble with the bees.

It scares the Piglins away
Light a Campfire to repel the non-attacking Piglins away.
Heads up!
Piglins that were engaged by you will not go away if you light a Campfire up.
A light source
Campfires are magnificent light sources. Classic Campfires emit a light level of 15, while soul Campfires have a level of 10. It will look gorgeous both outside and inside of any Minecraft house.
It deals damage to mobs
It doesn’t deal much damage and it’s not like mobs are just going to step into it and die. However, if they do, they will receive some minor damage.

To cook, hold raw meat and interact with the fire - they will appear around it.
