3 Advantages of Breeding Villagers in Minecraft
Breeding villagers?
We get it - it sounds weird at first, but it’s a must-do process in your Minecraft journey.
But how come that you need to start the breeding process for mobs and other villagers?
Well, if you breed Minecraft bees, you will get sweet honey items.
The same happens if you breed villagers - you’ll enjoy some benefits in the form of useful resources that you can later use on the crafting menu.
Pro Tip
You need to Get Honeycomb in Minecraft to use it as a building material for beehives, which will later on allow you to breed bees.
It might sound tedious, but it’s actually a pretty fun process (and it’s the only way to do it).
Also, wild bees are hostile mobs that in close proximity to you will attack you, so beware!
1. Start Subsequent Trades
Do you need some precious Iron Golems or a Golden Apple, but you can’t find them anywhere?
Perhaps you are looking for one block missing to create an enormous structure.
Well, sometimes, the best way to find these items is by starting a good trade with a villager.
A new trade can only be performed with villagers, so if you don’t have villagers close to you, then it will be a headache to get some items.
2. Fill an Empty Village with New Villagers
Imagine you find a desert village with no one in it. That’s boring!
The feature to trade appears only if there are villagers around, so you need to make them breed.
You could also get to work with the crafting table and create villages by yourself, but if the villages are empty, then your efforts are worthless.
3. Develop Villagers Professional Skills
Villagers are good workers!
They can claim job blocks and become farmers, librarians, and more.
When villagers breed, there’s a chance of getting lots more resources in Minecraft than you believe.
It’s a win-win situation for everyone! See the complete Villagers Professions List in Minecraft Official Wiki.
How to Breed Villagers in Minecraft
So, let’s find two villagers willing to breed and let’s do it!
Obviously, a single villager can’t reproduce by itself, so this is a two-way process that you need to follow carefully.
Step 1: Find a Village in the Minecraft World
If you are playing on Creative Mode, you can just enable flying in Minecraft and look for a village around the Overworld.
On the other hand, finding a village in Survival Mode is way trickier.
Worry not - we have written a blog post on how to find a village in Minecraft, so click here and give it a good read before proceeding: finding villages in Minecraft.
Step 2: Set Up an Enclosed Space for Two or More Villagers
There are four things that you need in you want the villager’s willingness to breed to happen:
- You need at least two villagers. You might as well have as many villagers as you want, but then you’ll need more resources;
- At least three beds. The more villagers there are, the more beds you’ll need. So, make sure there are enough unclaimed beds;
- A good structure to “trap” villagers. It must have a valid door, a fence gate, and iron bars to prevent them from leaving.
- Food. There isn’t love without food!
Step 3: Gather the Required Food for the Villagers
First, let’s start with the food.
You might feed each villager with bread, but sometimes you’ll need carrots and potatoes that can be farmed in the Village gardens.
Green leaves in the garden mean that the veggies are ready to pick up, so be sure to gather enough food.
When it comes to the beds, you’ll need just some three wool and three wood plank blocks on the crafting table.
These common materials can be found easily, so then again, make sure to have enough beds.
More villagers, more houses, more beds, more food - don’t ignore this!
Step 4: Throw Food to the Villagers and Make Sure TheyAre Willing to Breed
Now that you have everything set and ready to go, trap each villager next to the other inside a structure.
Then, throw bread or any other food at them.
In Minecraft, things often take place pretty quickly, so they will “fall in love” within just minutes.
Step 5: Wait for a Little Baby Villager to Appear
After the villagers “fall in love,” a cute baby villager will appear.
Slowly, the baby will grow and the village in Minecraft will have enough inhabitants sooner than later.
If you need more villagers, then you will need to repeat this same process for a while.
It will take time, but it’s definitely worth it!
That’s how you breed villagers in Minecraft!
